From Classroom to Career: Equipping Adult Learners with Portfolios that Work Either1.5 hoursYesCareer PathwaysResumes tell, but portfolios show. This Workforce Wednesday session will explore how digital portfolios empower students to showcase their skills, academic work, certifications, digital badges, prior learning, personal goals, and samples of work, including videos and pictures, to demonstrate their professional growth and workforce readiness. We will explore portfolio components that will equip you and your learners to articulate their value through digital storytelling and to curate employer-relevant content using Google apps and Google Drive. Objectives: Participants will be able to: Identify essential components of an effective digital portfolio that helps adult learners demonstrate skills, competencies, and professional growth. Guide learners in using digital storytelling techniques to articulate their value and connect their experiences to workforce expectations. Use Google apps and Google Drive to curate, organize, and share employer-relevant portfolio artifacts that support both academic and career advancement.
Building Partnerships through an Integrated Workforce System for ITP SuccessEither1 hourYesPartnershipsInternationally Trained Professionals (ITPs) face unique challenges when re-entering the workforce in the US. Language proficiency, non-recognition of credentials, and lack of social capital may seem to top the list of obstacles that may hold them back. However, if not well-coordinated and nurtured, the workforce ecosystem itself, AEL providers, employers, and Local Workforce Development Boards (LWDBs), may create even greater barriers for ITPs. This session will investigate how to build relationships with AEL providers, local employers, and LWDBs through continual communication, intentional collaboration, and community-building across the workforce systems. We will explore best practices for ensuring internationally trained professionals thrive in today’s American workplace no matter where they engage in the workforce system. Objectives: Identify and define key stakeholders of the workforce ecosystem. Examine best practices for supporting ITPs at each stakeholder level.
